I got sick of all the issues with my existing computers (iBook doesn’t work, Toshiba laptop is getting lines on the screen, and the sound hasn’t worked in nearly a year; and the PC is loud and slow) an got a MacBook Pro.
I’m just barely getting used to the keyboard, but there are unfortunately plenty of things I haven’t yet figured out how to do with the keyboard. The upside is that I LOVE the trackpad, which is more than twice the size of the one on the Toshiba, and the gestures for it are super efficient. I’ve very quickly become accustomed to that. The only downside is that the actual button for the trackpad is tough to hold down while dragging an item from one window to another.
I may do one or more posts on the transition from PC to Mac, too. There are a lot of resources for finding great software setups, but nobody’s opinion is more important to me than my own. ;)

That’s the beauty of the Mac trackpad, you don’t have to hold down the trackpad button to move an item, just modify your double-clicking habit to keep your finger down on the second tap, and then you can drag the item in question, even if you have to lift your finger to reposition it if running out of room. Tap again to release once you are at your destination.
Super simple, and super easy. Just as two finger tapping is much easier than twisting your thumb to reach the right button on Windows laptops, this is much easier than holding down any button.

Yeah, I use that for resizing windows and things, but I can’t manage to correctly move files without using the button. It’s something I still have a little trouble with, but it’s not SUCH a big deal. It’s more funny than anything when I accidentally drop one folder into another, but am not sure exactly where it went… it quickly becomes a quest to find the relocated data. Or command-Z and try again.
Lynda.com has “Essential training and new features” videos on Leopard, and they were really helpful at learning a few Very Helpful tricks.
This is my THIRD effort at making the switch to Mac, and it’s FINALLY working out for me!
