About

Terry Stamp sqName: Terry Cabeen

Born: 25 April, 1976

Hometown: Fort Wayne, IN

Home: Boulder, CO

More: I got married, quit my job, was hired by my employer as a consultant, and moved to Colorado with my wife. We are renting a 2BR house in northern Boulder, and one of the bedrooms is serving as our office.

Gave up consulting and got a “real” job for the security and stability. Started building a community.

We got pregnant (more she than me, but you understand). Expecting a baby in mid 2010.

Projects and Hobbies: Items on this list currently include: programming, hiking, bouldering, cycling, cooking, baking, creating music, web design, logo design, wedding planning, being the new media (different and less skillful than journalism), writing

This domain: The domain, cabeen.net, is something I created in 1998 in a dual effort to help bring my family together and hijack the family name for my own purposes. I live at least a day’s drive from any of my known relatives. I had great dreams of “modernizing” the family in an internet community. Unfortunately, my youthful dreams exceeded my youthful abilities, and through my college years, the site served primarily as an outlet for my thoughts and podium for my ego.

In the last few years, I have grown a great deal, a great many useful tools have been created for operating internet communities, and I have gained a great deal of technical knowledge. Unfortunately, at the same time, I have created a number of commitments that keep me bound to the keyboard doing other things. In time, I hope to put together a newer version of that original vision. A family tree program has been installed, and I host a couple websites for my sister, but that’s all the farther it has gotten so far. The to do list begins with speaking to the family and learning what, if any, need exists. Family blogs, photo albums, and a forum are all possibilities.

The Family: Cabeen is a name that originates from the Scottish MacBean. My classmates in high school serendipitously nicknamed me McBean, and I was shocked, years later, to learn of their unintentional clairvoyance. We are of what is apparently called “Scotch-Irish” descent, which seems to mean that we’re Scottish, but had a generational stopover in Ireland before emigrating to the US. My family is fairly loose-knit, and doesn’t really keep in great contact as a result. It’s sort of a bummer, because they’re all great people. Remedying that distance is the goal of cabeen.net.

This Site: Terry.Cabeen.net is MY corner of cabeen.net. It is a wordpress blog in which I post whatever is on my mind. Opinions, commentary, anecdotes, and the occasional rant can all be expected.

Your Part: You’re still reading this?? Alright, if you refuse to be driven away, then all I ask of you is a little reciprocity. I’m core-dumping my thoughts here, and I love feedback. If you have anything pop in your head, don’t hesitate to put it in a comment. Even if it’s blunt, crass, harsh, or even a bit rude. I’m a big boy; I can take it. :)
